Carolyn Candy

Artist Statement

Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid is then applied to a surface, usually prepared wood. This technique was notably used in Egypt around 100-300 AD.

By using a heat gun on the warm wax each encaustic painting takes on its own uniqueness. I mix colored wax together to create colors which speak to me. I mostly paint abstracts and strive to have many layers into which the viewer can become immersed.

Artist Bio

Working and playing with texture, color and design feeds Carolyns soul. Cutting, tearing, pasting, painting, stamping, layering and applying hot wax, each piece of work comes together in its own unique way.

Having watched her elementary students for 30 years making art with abandon, Carolyn became inspired to let go, as they do so effortlessly, and just create.

Carolyn is a self taught artist who has always loved visiting her artist friends studios. She is a life long lover of art and very thankful to live on an island full of artists..
