Gretchen Hancock

Artist Statement

I live on Vashon and so am inspired by what I see around me. I paint the ferries, scenes of the beach, and the madrona trees in my yard. I am interested in dramatic lighting--I look for the sunlit passages through the woods, fog and mist, late afternoon light turning the madrona trunks orange and red, moonlight reflected on the water. I paint in response to something I see, and I hope you will be captures by the sense of light in my pieces.
