Janice Mallman
Artist Statement
I began my love affair with the beauty of Japanese papers after a trip to Japan in 1984. Their textures, gorgeous fibers and transparency enhance my collage work. Cutting and pasting to create a work of art out of scraps of paper is a meditative-like process.
During Covid, I have found a deeper connection to the earth and the beauty in simple things. Be it a found smooth rock, a dragonfly flitting through my garden or the gorgeous petals of a dahlia unfolding. This has led me to explore new mediums like mosaic tiles, fused glass and rock painting. This exploration has filled my days with an exuberance for living and a desire to make everything around me beautiful and that really IS my life.
