Artist Statement
Encaustic painting is an antique technique, dating back to the Creeks and means "to heat or burn in" (enkaustikos). Heat is used throughout the painting process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing the layers of wax. Pigments may be added to the medium, or purchased colored with traditional artist pigments. The encaustic medium, melted, is applied with a brush or other tools, materials/items embedded in creating designs.
