Artist Statement
My fused glass pieces reflect my deep interest in experimenting with color, shape, and design. Some pieces are inspired by landscapes with my favorite being tropical paradises. After creating primarily plates and bowls for years, more recently I�ve delved into also making iridescent earrings and pendants.

Fused glass is the primary artist passion for Mary Jo Svendsen. She loves to experiment with color and how colors in glass change when combined during the fusing process.
Mary Jo began working with glass about 10 years ago after retiring from a teaching career at Boeing and previously at Mercer Island Schools. She participated as an artist in one of the Spring Vashon Studio Tours with her son, Michael Leavitt, who is also a talented artist.
