Penny Grist

Artist Statement

One of the main things that drives me as an artist is a sense wonder that something beautiful can be made from chunks of wood or stone, fragments of glass, sheets of metal, scraps of cloth, hanks of rope, swaths of paint, etc. The other, within a particular body of work, is curiosity. What would happen if.. is a question that keeps me intrigued and engaged.

Artist Bio

I have been making art for over 50 years in a variety of media, including but not limited to, jewelry, painting, sculpture, mosaic and fiber art. A progressive visual disability and a spirit of adventure have propelled me into a new medium every decade or so. I studied in New York City and in Seattle at the factory of visual arts, University of Washington, and Seattle Mosaic Arts. I am currently learning fiber art at YouTube University.
