Artist Statement
My present work has concentrated on endangered birds of the United States. I am drawn to this subject matter because of the beauty of these creatures, the alarming rate they are dying off and the need for awareness and conservation. As I research each state and bird, I am saddened and transfixed by the fragility of our planet and the need to use my voice, through my art. Printmaking involves many steps that can alter my images as I work. It is yet another form of magic that determines the final piece.

Artist Bio
Sue has spent her lifetime, personally and professionally, creating art. Sue was a high school art teacher for 20 years, had her own business for 10 years making hand painted floorcloths (featured in, The Complete Book of Floorcloths by Kathy Cooper) and stenciled and hand painted walls for clients throughout the United States. Since retiring from teaching, Sue has concentrated on making copper plate intaglio etchings using the press at Quartermaster Press. The process is labor intensive since the plates are aquatinted for variation of tone, then hand colored using watercolors. Sues present subject matter has been birds, flora and pattern, inspired by trips to Costa Rica and endangered species of the United States. Sue has had gallery shows on Vashon at Cafe Luna, Snapdragon, Outstanding In Their Field, and shown in multiple Studio Tours.
