Painters & Painting with us!!!

This First Friday we are planning a community paint project, August 4th 5-8pm. Multiple easels will be set up out front with the start of a scene sketched out by some of our artists. Washable paint will be available for community folks to add some color or individual details to the collective works throughout the evening.

It will be fun, please come on by!

This month we are featuring special works in our window with a 'Colors of Water' theme. The water surrounding our island is so majestic. The various colors of water really vary, they shine with the bright summer sunlight and bring out moody feelings reflective of the elements around us. We want to bring some of those magical water hues into focus and celebrate the beautiful water that defines our island. These themed pieces are only available in the gallery during August. See them before they're gone!

Swiftwater has a large number of talented painters, which we will be featuring throughout the next two months. From watercolor to oil and acrylic to encaustic, we have a wide variety of forms and styles. Learn more about some of these artists and see which of their paint styles resonates with you.

Rose Belknap takes inspiration from the natural world and landscapes that surround her.

Using oil paints to capture the essence of the island, she paints local scenes and conveys the story of nature's beauty and it's power of healing to her viewers.

Kassana Holden mixes various media and acrylic in her abstract paintings.

She contemplates the transformative nature of subjects and objects through her art, intrigued by residual beauty and the way we experience things over time.

Gretchen Hancock paints island and northwestern scenes as well as still lifes in oil and watercolor. Painting in response to nature, she handily captures a range of shades, colors, and shadows, with an eye for dramatic lighting. Gretchen's ferry painting is also featured above.

Jeff Good is an award winning watercolor artist, who loves to paint natural settings while traveling or simply outdoors.

While cultivating the skill of capturing an authentic sense of light within his work, he is inspired by nature and its resemblance to the process of watercolor.

Ilse Reimnitz strives to create a sense of unity in her art by connecting the natural environment and the human spirit. Using watercolor, printmaking, or a combination of both, she builds layers that create visual excitement on soft backgrounds.

Donna Caulton paints in watercolor and acrylics, in addition to practicing the other mediums of collage and printmaking.

Her interest in the natural world inspires her paintings that tell the stories of the earth's rhythms, cycles and creatures. She focuses on portraying a balance within nature and the natural order of things.
